The Praxis I and II assessments are nationally normed academic skills and subject specialty tests required for Virginia teaching licensure.
Praxis I is a Teacher Education Program entrance requirement. All three Praxis subtests (reading, writing and math) must be passed individually or with composite scores before acceptance into the Teacher Preparation Program. A composite score of 532 is required for "passing" status. Approximately 40% of students who take Praxis I do not pass all of the individual stubtests. Any individual subtest may be repeated. Please note: Students must wait 30 days before they can re-test.
Tips for Passing Praxis I
Praxis II content tests required for licensure and program completion. Secondary and specialty area teachers are required to take Praxis II in their discipline of concentration and / or major. Elementary school teachers are required to take an Elementary Content Knowledge test.
