How does teacher preparation work at CNU?
Students who enter CNU
and wish to become teachers enroll in a five year program. Students
major in a content area, such as English or biology, and receive
a bachelor's degree in liberal arts or science at the end of four
years of study. The fifth year includes professional courses at
the graduate level, ending in a semester of student teaching.
Students who already have
a bachelor's degree can enroll in a 36-hour master's plus licensure
program or a licensure only program.
Areas for licensure include:
Elementary (PK-6); Art (PK-12); Biology (6-12); Computer Science
(6-12); English (6-12); French (PK-12); History and Social Science
(6-12); Mathematics (6-12); Music, Choral or Insturmental (PK-12);
Physics (6-12); Spanish (PK-12); and Theater (PK-12).
Why
should you do a graduate program?
Earning a graduate degree
adds an additional $2000-$3500 to your intital salary schedule.
For students enrolled
in CNU, the graduate degree is earned in only one extra year, instead
of the two years frequently required for a master's degree.
